MUSTER   |   home

The Annual Regimental Muster for the 102d Regiment will be held on September 14, 2013 at the West Orange Armory. Prior to the Muster we will have a Special Meeting of the Association; beginning at 1300 hours, this meeting is intended to discuss and accept the proposed changes to our Constitution and By-Laws. Following the meeting we will have lunch and refreshments available.

If you have any pictures from your days with the regiment, squadrons or battalions please bring them along. We would like to scan them to be posted on the Association’s website.

If you are available, on September 7 we will be at the Armory at 0800 hours to clean and setup for the meeting and Muster. If you can lend a hand it will be appreciated. We are planning to work for about 4 hours. Coffee and bagels will be served.

For several years we have made an annual trip to a West Point Football game. This year; barring any hurricanes, we have selected the Eastern Michigan game on October 12, 2013. Kickoff is at 1200 hours, plan for the bus to leave West Orange at 0730 hours.

The cost for each ticket is: $40.00. The trip includes: game ticket, round trip bus ride for the game, breakfast served at West Point and refreshments after the game. Last year we had a catered breakfast, which include eggs, bacon, sausage, coffee, bagels and all the fixings. Bring your own lunch/diner, we will have a barbecue pit available after the game, the Troop will supply all of the refreshments.

There are limited tickets, so send your check to the Troop Office, attention: Football.
This is a great day out, each year we have a GREAT time!!!!

Annual dues for the 102d Cavalry Association – Essex Troop are $20.00 per calendar year. Please mail your annual dues payment to the Attention of Membership.

As you will recall back in 2008 the 102d Armor Battalion and the 5-117th CAV Squadron reorganized to form the present day 1st Squadron 102d Cavalry. In the infinite wisdom of the State they designated the Regiment’s unit crest (distinctive unit insignia or DUI) from the 5-117th Squadron; the “Show’em the Way”.

We have been fighting the fight to correct this and continue to correspond with the State leadership. It is a frustrating ordeal, just trying to find someone to talk to and listen to our side of the argument. We will continue the fight and our goal is to change the Unit Crest back to the original 1923 Crest.

In the past few years the Essex Troop has mailed an estimated $2500 worth of care packages to NJ Guard and RA units deployed to Afghanistan. Below is the latest batch heading out for Afghanistan to the 10th Mountain Division soldiers. These boxes weigh in at 133 pounds of snacks, personal hygiene supplies, cookies, soup and stationary. Donations came from the fellow Essex Troopers, Legionnaires from American Legion Post in Wharton, NJ, the Knights of Columbus of St Therese Council in Roxbury, NJ and the bulk came from the Elks Club in Boonton, NJ.  The 102d Association is donating the cost of postage to the APO.
